History of Football in Bierton

Bierton Football Club were first registered with the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire Football Association in 1919.

The club had little success until after the Second World War. In the 1950’s they won the Oving Village Cup four times in a row between 1953 and 1956, which no other club has achieved since. They were also runners up for the next three years, achieveing a run to seven consecutive finals. In the 1955/1956 season, they won six trophies, the most notable of these was winning the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire Junior Cup. Bierton FC was the first club from the Aylesbury and District League to achieve this feat.

In the 1960’s Bierton FC continued winning more silverware. In the 1970’s and 1980’s there was a barren period but by the late 1990’s success was again with the club, gaining promotion back to the Premier Division of the Aylesbury and District League and the Reserves promotion to the First Division.

In 2000 Bierton won the Marsworth Senior Cup and in 2003 they reacher the Oving Village Cup final after an absence of fourty-four years, only to be beaten after a replay. At the start of the 2012/2013 season, Bierton Football Club had a name change to Bierton FC Wanderers following a take over from Chris Finch (Previously manager of Sunday SLN side FC Wanderers).

Having grown up in Bierton and having played for the Bierton double winning team of 2010/2011, Finch had an easy decision accepting Bierton’s offer as manager. Finch bought in his two assistant managers, Jon Eley and Ryan Collings. Having an established team already following his FC Wanderers days, the foundations were perfect for Finch to come in and bring the glory days back to the village. That year they won the ADL Division One and the Thomas Sparks Cup Final. Sadly the success did not continue and in 2014 Bierton FC Wanderers folded.

Before the 2014/2015 season we were approached by Aylesbury United to host their newly formed reserve team in the South Midland League. The team did not have a good season and unfortunately folded after only a few months. The Aylesbury United first team also used our pitch for pre-season training two nights a week at the same time.

After this, we were approached by FC Mandeville Reserves to use the pitch for their home games. After playing in Bierton for a season, the team changed their name to FC Bierton and are still playing at the Recreation Ground to this present day. They are currently in Divison One of the Aylesbury and District League.

About the same time, Aylesbury United Ladies used the pitch on Sundays for their home games and stayed at the Recreation Ground until the end of the 2018/2019 season.

At the start of the 2019/2020 season, we were approached by Stone United to see if they could ground share with FC Bierton and use the Recreation Ground for their home ganes too, as they were unable to find a ground int heir village. This was agreed between the Parish Council, the Aylesbury and District League and FC Bierton, as the ground-share would affect the latter.

We currently have a gane at the Recreation Ground almost every Saturday throughout the football season.
